Conceptual Art in Prison

Conceptual Art in Prison is a series of artist-run programs and classes held at the Columbia River Correctional Institution, a minimum security prison in northeast Portland, Oregon. Currently, Professor Harrell Fletcher teaches a weekly class on autobiography writing. During the week, participants work on their writing and in class on Fridays, they read aloud what they wrote. Together with the other participants, Harrell and other visiting artists respond with feedback, questions, and suggestions. When participants finish writing, the Conceptual Art in Prison program will coordinate the editing, design, illustration, and publication of their autobiographies. Follow the project on Instagram.
